Elevated Enviro's Re-Cup Program
Reducing Single-Use Plastic
Plastic seems like the new smoking. Maybe for a good reason as our oceans and landfills are filling up with single-use plastic items like straws, bags, lids and cups. There is a single-use plastic pollution issue, that needs to be solved. This issue has spurred a massive drive towards "sustainable" or alternative products made from paper, wood, bio-degradable plastic or compostable material. This drive is slightly misguided. These more "sustainable" products come at a higher resource cost. In other words more green house gases are being produced from their manufacturing and transportation.
Here's some surprising alternative "sustainable" product facts:
- 7 trucks are needed to transport two million paper bags where as only one truck is needed for the same number of plastic ones
- Per KG of plastic wrapped food will reduce 350g of CO2 from food waste savings
- An organic cotton bag must be re-used 20,000 times to produce less of an environmental impact than a single-use plastic bag
Possible Solution to Single-Use Plastic Pollution
There could be many solutions and we certainly don't have all the answers but one has to be to stop making things single-use. If material reduction is not built into the business plan then there is an inherent incentive to produce more. This contributes to the pollution of single-use plastic we are experiencing today. Collection methods can not keep up with the volume. We need to build reduction into our businesses.
The next time you're hosting a party, bqq, beer garden or get together stop buying the single-use party cups. Instead order a case of our EE Re-Cups. We will deliver what you need, when the party is done put them back in the box and we'll pick them up, as you've told us at ordering.
What we do is wash them and get them ready for the next party. The cups are re-usable, dishwasher safe and made of the most recyclable plastic, polypropylene. Once the cups have reached their max use we recycle them. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and feel good.
We are in the "assessing demand" stage of this program and need to see if you (the market) wants this. We are starting with the Edmonton market area first, as that is where we live. If you're interested in this service for your next party. Fill out the form below!
